Introduction to Kitchen Design Software

Designing and building a new kitchen can be one of the most rewarding tasks when you are renovating your home. The kitchen is the epicentre of family life, it is where people come to meet, talk and dine – possibly the most used communal room in a home. Using professional Kitchen Design Software, you can create a totally bespoke design that will leave your own personal mark.

Recommended Features

If you have not used design software before it may at first seem slightly overwhelming.  However most software packages designed for public consumption are usually made user-friendly. There are several different factors that go in to the overall design of the kitchen itself, and these can be tailored using the CAD software.  These include (but are not limited to) kitchen dimensions, surface tops, electrical appliances (stoves and fridges), lighting.  A competent software package should allow you to enter dimensions and adjust lighting / shadows.

Typically the software will come with templates so that you can get an idea of how to assemble a bespoke design, such as adjusting the furniture type. One of the key elements of how a kitchen looks is what materials are used for the units themselves.  A traditional/rustic kitchen will be often be made using wood, whereas a modern or minimalist kitchen will be made with a chrome or metal like finish.  The software should have a library of different materials, such as a selection of woods, metals, granite etc for you to choose from.

Impact of design elements

The software is important as it helps you visualise every part of your new kitchen, and each element is important as it impacts on the overall appearance and feel.  For example units made of oak can give a bright finish, but will only be suitable if your appliances match the look.  An uber-modern chrome kettle, toaster, oven or fridge for example would look out of place in this instance.
